Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 10, 2026

Overview

VoteNavigator is a nonpartisan voter education platform. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

  • Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and password (stored securely hashed).
  • Profile and quiz responses: Your answers to political alignment questions, scenarios, and profile preferences. These are used to generate your voter profile and candidate matches.
  • Address information: If you provide your address, we use it solely to determine your voting districts and show relevant ballot information. Your full address is not stored—only the geographic identifiers needed for district matching.
  • Usage data: Basic analytics such as page views and feature usage to help us improve the platform. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How We Use Your Information

  • Generate your political profile and ideology analysis
  • Match you with candidates based on your stated positions
  • Show ballot information relevant to your voting districts
  • Improve the platform and fix issues
  • Send essential account-related emails (verification, password reset)

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate and improve VoteNavigator:

  • Google Analytics: Collects anonymous usage data (pages visited, session duration) to help us understand how the platform is used. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel: Measures the effectiveness of our voter outreach campaigns by tracking page views and conversions. You can manage ad tracking through your Facebook Ad Settings.
  • Vercel Analytics: Privacy-friendly, anonymous performance monitoring. No personally identifiable information is collected.
  • Google Places API: Used for address autocomplete when looking up your ballot. Your address query is sent to Google for suggestions. We do not store your full address.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your personal data to third parties
  • We do not share your quiz answers or political profile with anyone
  • We do not use your personal data to train AI models—AI research is based solely on publicly available information

AI-Generated Content

VoteNavigator uses artificial intelligence to research candidate positions, generate summaries, and identify potential issues. All AI-generated content is reviewed by our editorial team before publication. AI research is based on publicly available information and does not use any user data as input.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure, encrypted servers. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. We use HTTPS for all data transmission. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at our contact page.

Cookies

We use cookies for authentication (session tokens), analytics (Google Analytics), and campaign measurement (Meta Pixel). Essential cookies for authentication cannot be disabled without losing access to your account. Analytics and advertising cookies can be managed through your browser settings or the opt-out links listed above.

Children's Privacy

VoteNavigator is intended for users who are of voting age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
